End of March, 2009

During this trip, we moved the old wood stove out and brought the new stove in.
Grandpa and Grandma Doty came up and helped install the dryer and washer. One might feel this should have been an easy task, but of course we did not have a hole in the wall so it needed to be made (in the proper location). Grandma helped us trim some plants and clean up some of the gardens.

Old stove pipe peeking down through the ceiling.

Using some leverage to lift the 15 billion pound stove up on a moving dolly.

After a long period of learning to use levers and the principles of fulcrums, we got the stove on the dolly.

We made a ramp from 2 X 8s and slowly rolled it up the ramp, careful to not go over the side.

Whew. At the top of the ramp. Now to the next challenge.

At the door, up the threshold and then down to the deck.

Yeah! Outside on the deck.

This was REAL interesting. We made a bridge and supported the 2 X 8s with a plastic recyclers box. After a few gritty moments, we got the stove across the bridge.

We thought it was ironic and fitting that the sun was setting on the stove, both in reality and figuratively.

The new stove. After the fire brick and door and fan assembly was removed, it felt about 1/2 the weight of the old stove and moved via the ramps back using the reverse route as the old stove in about 1/4 the time.

Last leg of the journey

Bernardo was dancing for joy that the new stove was on the hearth.

He was so excited with the new stove (not installed yet) he just had to sleep next to it. It was a great sleeping buddy.

Dale checking out the chimney. Nope, too high. Need another ladder.

Dryer and washer in place, ready to use. It even vents outside!

Planning, measuring, strategy, etc.
